Day 94 - Snapper Rocks
Snapper RocksMonday, 22 April 2013
Another cool night and morning. Had breakfast and a walk with Tuka.
Afterwards I left Tuka in the van with food and water and went for a bushwalk. Easy walking as only low shrubs with sandy tracks in between them. Plenty of tracks and traces but initially little animal life. Finally saw some swallows flitting around and the occasional honeyeater than I disturbed a kangaroo (Euro) - small and pretty with red fur and white streak near face. As I continued walking I disturbed another three at different places that had been keeping cool in the little shade around. No chance of a closeup photo as they move too fast. On the way back to camp in the middle of the track was a little lizard which did let me take photographs.
Had morning tea with Tuka and then a short walk. These days he enjoys short walks and lying in the van instead of long walks.
Although it was windy decided to go kayaking. Paddled up to the seagrass beds opposite Snapper Bay where I saw the dugongs and dolphin on day 2. I stopped paddling and just let the wind blow the kayak. I was relaxing and then a turtle surfaced alongside the kayak. He looked around, saw me and took off back underwater before I could take a photograph. It was great to have his head so close to me- pity he didn't stay. Later I saw a lone dolphin chasing fish. I paddled over near it and then tried to follow it but couldn't get close enough for photographs.
Back at the camp had lunch, did some reading, had a swim with Tuka. Packed up some of the gear as we will going to Denham tomorrow. Will come back to Snappers Rock on Wednesday
