Monkey Mia, Denham, Snapper Rocks

Wednesday, 24 April 2013
Woke up early had breakfast, took Tuka for walk and then put him back in the van with food and water. Packed up some of the gear and then walked over to the Dolphin Feeding Area.

First feeding time is at 7.45am. Some of the dolphins were there earlier and then left. At 7.45 am the DEC ranger invited the assembled group of tourists (pobably about 100 as it was School Holidays) down onto the beach. He then gave a talk about the dolphins and the history of feeding them whilewe waited for the dolphins to come back. Nikki and her calf came in. She is the oldest dolphin that comes into be fed. Randomly selected people were allowed to feed the dolphins.

Went back to the van and took Tuka for a walk, avoiding the emus and then packed up and left. Drove to Little Lagoon and had a cuppa and a walk with Tuka. Then onto Denham where I did some food shopping and went the art exhibition at the information centre.

In the afternoon drove the 120km back to Snapper Rocks. On the way stopped off at Shell Beach. Millions of small white Coquina shells have accumulated in some spots up to ten metres deep.

Finally at Snapper Rocks where I lay down the ground sheet, put out the chair, table and the solar panels and then took Tuka for a walk. Afterwards sat down and had a beer while Tuka wandered down to the water and got himself wet. Nice to be back at our campsite. Later that evening patched the kayak.
